Portrait of a little girl wearing a brown dress holding a book standing beside a table, inscribed with the words “drawn by A Burt Oxford 1838” . The sitter is identified on the back (on the original framer’s label in handwriting) as “Amelia A. Slatter, daughter of J.W. Slatter, tradesman and Town Councillor (a poet!), my upholsterer’s friend from 1893, died January 1912”.
